Arrancame la vida/Tear This Heart Out

Arrancame la vida / Tear This Heart Out
(2008, Dir. Roberto Sneider, Mexico)

Based on the 1985 novel by Mexican novelist Angeles Mastretta, this film takes place in 1930s/40s Mexico, just after the Revolution, and tells the story of a calculating general- Andres Asensio (Daniel Gimenez Cacho)- who ultimately plans to work his way up to the Mexican presidency. In need of a wife for his public image, he beds Catalina Guzman (Ana Claudia Talac??n) before she reaches her 16th birthday, and marries her soon after. Dark clouds soon appear on the horizon in the form of scandals from Asensio's personal life, though this doesn't seem to faze Catalina who, as it turns out, has a few agendas of her own.
