Approaches to Teaching in the January Term
In the transition to semesters, Otterbein University incorporated a 3-week January or J-term course to the curriculum. The J-term presents an interesting set of opportunities and challenges for both faculty and student alike. This presentation will highlight four examples of courses in topics ranging from cultural geography to nuclear power. While these courses originate in a variety of disciplines, common themes of technology, intensive experiences, and course design emerge as hallmarks of the J-term. The presenters will share their experiences in hopes that it will broaden people's concepts of what can and cannot be accomplished in a J-term setting.
